THE GARDENER'S COTTAGE
RESTORATION AND DREAM TOUR
August/September/October 2005

The Gardener's Cottage, situated in beautiful Kew Gardens at the foot of Lee Avenue, has captured the imagination of Beach residents for one hundred years. The restoration of the Gardener’s Cottage was Beach Rotary’s community project in recognition of Rotary International’s Centennial. Working in cooperation with Sandra Bussin, and Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation, our Club undertook to coordinate the completion of the renovations this past summer, and to show the community and the rest of Toronto the spectacular results by hosting a tour of the Cottage.

For three weeks, from September 16 through to October 10, The Gardener's Cottage Dream Tour afforded an exceptional opportunity for the work and products contributed by the designers, renovators, stores and other businesses that have participated to be seen and recognized.

A beautiful, full-colour Gardener's Cottage Souvenir Magazine was prepared to showcase the exterior of the Cottage, and each interior room, the designers and their work, along with historical notes and plans. The magazine has become a treasured account and keepsake. To order a copy of the magazine contact Barb Dingle 416 698-0971.

Proceeds from the Tour ticket sales were donated to our community hospital -- Toronto East General's Child and Adolescent Mental Health Program, Crisis Unit. Thanks to all those that took the Tour, we have passed along a donation of $15,000. Read more about this program.

THE COTTAGE THEN AND NOW
We asked designers and decorators to take a step back in time, and imagine how a cottage by the lake would look and feel in the early 1900s. They all used their considerable skills and knowledge of the era of this historic landmark to complete one room inside, or part of the exterior refurbishing. The cottage is now beautifully restored. Take a look!
